Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation: [se' 16th, 1971 - March 31st 1995), also known as Selena, is an American Tejano singer. Selena was known as the "Queen Tejano music", her contributions in music and fashion have made her one of the most famous Mexican-American entertainers of all time. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was basing it on Latin songs as well as Latin albums. Her clothing choices earned her the name "Tejano Madonna". Her choices in clothing are what brought her the nickname "Tejano Madonna" from media outlets. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was regularly criticized for singing Tejano music, which was a male-dominated music genre. Also, she was denied performances in Texas venues. (1993) was nominated as the best Mexican/American album at the 1994 Grammy Awards. It was the first Tejano album to be awarded this prize. Amor Prohibido became one the most sought-after Latin albums in the United States in 1994. It was widely praised as being the reason behind Tejano music's debut as a marketable genre as it became one of the most well-known Latin music subgenres of the time.
